Aiming to support female entrepreneurship in Africa particularly in times of crisis, the Women’s Innovation Center WETECH (Women in Entrepreneurship and Technology) has launched a call for applications as part of its WETECH WILE program : Women Innovative Leaders and Entrepreneurs . An initiative with the aim to identify and support the women entrepreneurs in Africa with potential companies or innovative projects.

Wetech Wile: The selected projects are known

During the call for applications period from September 1, 2020 to September 21, 2020, 326 applications were registered in various sectors of activity. A momentum that has demonstrated the interest and need of African women entrepreneurs to be supported. After a selection made mainly by the hubs, partner incubators of the eligible countries, 50 profiles of women as well as their projects were selected. The process was carried out on the basis of criteria such as:

  • The economic potential
  • The innovation presented
  • The relevance of the solution to the problem identified
  • The resilience, ambition and credibility of the entrepreneur
  • The use or integration of technologies in the project

The results also respond to a principle of proportionality in the number of applications received, taking into account the sectors of activity and the countries represented.

In accordance with the eligibility criteria, the 50 WETECH WILE Fellows selected are from Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Madagascar, Mauritius, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Rwanda, Senegal, Chad and Togo. These young women are identified as those who undoubtedly contribute to the pride of their country in the fields of Entrepreneurship and / or Technology. They will follow the WILE program for the next six months, benefiting from mentoring, access to various resources offered by partners, promotion of their projects, networking and various opportunities .
